Blurred and Slurred
Yawns come closer
together,
watery eyes begin to
appear,
the odd shiver here and
there,
tiredness creeps in.
Head hits the pillow,
tucked up,
curled in a ball,
sleep time.
Dreams come and go
and suddenly the
phone rings,
creating a huge racket,
groaning, sleepy eyed
she answers it,
a rough and sleepy ‘hello’,
slurred words returned,
a tumble of drunken ramble,
short, curt harsh words
uttered.
Drunken idiot,
slurring words,
blurting out all sorts,
no excuse.
