This was written for the book ‘Against the Clock’. Against the Clock is a collection of stories and poems, on behalf of The Alzheimer’s Society - the contents of the book were written in at 12-hour writing marathon and from that marathon a collection of poems and stories have been put into a book and dedicated to all those lost to, or suffering from, Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.
My Grandfather died of Alzheimer’s so this is rather close to home.
This was a later piece, I wrote it very close to midnight, nearing the end of the long marathon… I had written so much I was exhausted, my fingers ached and my brain was all over the place… out of that I wrote this.
Lost In Thoughts
Music switched on,
turned up and up and up,
drowning out thoughts and sounds,
scribbling down
streams of thoughts.
Music stops dead,
a strange, strained silence,
eyes reopened,
left wondering what all
the scribble on the page means,
where it came from and
what inspired it.
She is
lost.
