This was written for the book ‘Against the Clock’. Against the Clock is a collection of stories and poems, on behalf of The Alzheimer’s Society - the contents of the book were written in at 12-hour writing marathon and from that marathon a collection of poems and stories have been put into a book and dedicated to all those lost to, or suffering from, Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.
My Grandfather died of Alzheimer’s so this is rather close to home.
Originally inspired by one of the prompts, but I can never conjure something up from thin air… so, inspired by one of the prompts but also inspired by long and special telephone calls which I’ll never forget.
Sleepless Night
Here we are again,
it’s two a.m.,
another night spent
talking
rather than dreaming.
Keeping one another
up, while the moon falls,
the sun rises, and slowly
conversation quietens as
we prepare for an end to our
dreamless, sleepless night.
Spend the day on
automatic,
day dreaming, yawning,
waiting for another night
where we are alone.
