A Soldier

Posted on 03. Feb, 2010 by Olivia Bell in Uncategorized Poetry

I feel alone, small and fragile,
my red hot salty tears drip,
drip, drip, drip
from my eyelids
down my cheeks
past my parted lips
trickling over my jawbone,
disappearing–
I am alone, delicate and broken,
my old, once red hot tears
have fallen, like brave soldiers–
I am afraid, afraid of solitude,
unaccompanied like those buried
deep beneath the soil we walk upon–
I am terrified, frightened and [...]

Their Love

Posted on 23. Nov, 2009 by Olivia Bell in Uncategorized Poetry

Her eyes droop and close,
a ragged cough, a forced
breath–
her frail hand, worn and beautiful
clasps his, in hers
a practiced movement;
laced fingers, slotting together
like old puzzle pieces–
his lips move, but he does not speak,
their hands gripping one another

Nothing At All

Posted on 19. Nov, 2009 by Olivia Bell in Uncategorized Poetry

Death is nothing at all;
we are merely in different rooms,
I still see you,
you still see me,
if we look within.

I am still with you;
do not think we shall not meet again,
our paths will cross
and we will be one,

I am here,
in the depths [...]

A Photograph of Her

Memories fade despite
your wish for it to be
fresh and new,
wishing and wanting
sometimes isn’t enough,
memories fade, I find
your image no longer as
vivid in my mind,
I see you only just,
I’m forced to stare
at pictures of you
to simply remind myself
to refresh my memory,
that you were once real.
And try as I might
I cannot help but feel
a failure, for forgetting
your [...]

Grandpa’s Goodbye

Posted on 15. Nov, 2009 by Olivia Bell in Uncategorized Poetry

Lowered into the ground,
left to rest in peace,
forget the troubling
past years,
moving on, leaving us
behind.
Slowly we walk away,
back to the cottage,
we look and stare at
the reminders of everything
you left behind.
It looks just like you left to go shopping,
instead we know you won’t
return to create more mess,
we are left alone,
left to pick up the pieces.
You were different,
forgetting [...]
