This was written for the book ‘Against the Clock’. Against the Clock is a collection of stories and poems, on behalf of The Alzheimer’s Society - the contents of the book were written in at 12-hour writing marathon and from that marathon a collection of poems and stories have been put into a book and dedicated to all those lost to, or suffering from, Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.
My Grandfather died of Alzheimer’s so this is rather close to home.
I love this, although it was written for Against the Clock I would have probably written it anyway… I wrote this when I was in limbo, that place where you go “Will we ever be more than friends?”, so I was in essence waiting for a beginning… if you catch my drift.
Waiting for a Beginning
Day in and day out
I try not to wait,
I move forward
focusing on each step,
each moment, each breath,
but I can’t help but
wonder when we’ll begin.
